It was bright and busy at the Pool July 11 when Oxbow’s Seawolves Aquatic Club held their 2010 Invitational Swim Meet. 146 swimmers were registered for the sprint meet. Teams came from Estevan, Regina, Swift Current, Weyburn, Melville, Assiniboia and Gravelbourg.

There were seventy-two events grouped by age and gender. Points were awarded to the top seven swimmers in each event and each swimmer is allowed to enter five events. Each competitor could receive a maximum of 35 points if they won all their races. The point system feeds into provincial competition when the top six qualifiers for each event compete against their counterparts from the north.

Meet official Pat Jeannot said overall the numbers for the competition were very similar to last year; but the numbers of Oxbow participants was down considerably. He attributed that to the late pool opening and competition from the recent provincial girls ball tournaments which had a number of participants from past swim teams.

Oxbow’s Tanner Jeannot, with a perfect 35 points, took the gold for 11-12 year-old boys. His elder brother, Chad Jeannot won gold for the 15-17 year old boys’ Individual high score with 31 points. Team mate Carter Macfarlane got the silver for 11-12 boys with 22 points. Kira Kinder collected a bronze medal for 9-10 girls with an individual score of 20. Lindsay McNab finished fourth and just out of the medals with 14 points among 11-12 girls. Likewise for Keith Kinder, fourth among 15-17 boys with 10 points.

Other competing Seawolves were Kristin Mayer (age 9), Chaelyn Kitz (age 13), Morgan Macfarlane (13), Alayna McNab (15), Allan Mohrbutter and Larissa Mohrbutter.

This year the coaches’ mantle passed to the younger generation and the Seawolves were coached by Allan Mohrbutter, Chad Jeannot and Keith Kinder.
