Ever wonder what the weather is like in Oxbow?
If you have a computer, and are connected to the internet, the information is only a click of the mouse away.
The Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan (APAS) has launched a new web portal network (myRM.ca) to provide detailed local weather and rural information for APAS member RMs and their communities.
The RM of Enniskillen was one of the first five to have the weather monitoring station operational, and has it installed in Oxbow.
The local weather information is being provided by Earth Networks, a company operating the largest weather and lightning networks in the world and owner of the WeatherBug website, desktop and mobile applications. Earth Networks and APAS will be deploying up to 70 weather stations throughout Saskatchewan as part of the initial rollout of the network. Another RM in the area with a weather station already installed is the RM of Coalfields.
The local portals feature local conditions as reported every few seconds by an Earth Networks weather station.
Guy Ash, WeatherFarm Manager said rural communities often don’t have the live local weather information they need for a variety of applications.
“Whether producers are making daily agronomic decisions, managing livestock, responding to emergencies, managing water resources and flood risks or just trying to figure out what to wear, better live local weather and forecast information can be a real benefit to rural communities.”
In addition to information about the local weather, the RM can use the network to post community notices, links to forms and other information of importance to the community.
If you want to access the information go to the myRM.ca site, and click on the name of the municipality you are interested. Current local weather conditions plus other information will be displayed. A detailed seven-day forecast is available by following the Advanced Weather Report link displayed on the page.
